Dear Sir Adam Beck Families,

Thanks to everyone who attended the Smartphone talk at WO last Wednesday. We are thankful for Dr. Alison Yeung and the important information she shared with us. We hope to continue to collaborate with our Wilmot schools going forward to provide timely and important information that is of interest to our families.

We also wanted to share that we have seen a solid improvement in bus behaviour recently. We are so proud of our bus students for showing their Beck pride by maintaining appropriate, safe, and respectful behaviour on our buses. Way to go, Chargers! Keep up the great work!

SLIP Goals (SLIP stands for School Learning Improvement Plan)

Every school in the WRDSB holds SLIP goals in Literacy, Math, and Equity. Here are ours:

Reading and Writing (Literacy)

By January 2027, we want to see our SAB students who receive Special Education support making clear strides in their reading. We are focusing on the building blocks: sounding out words, reading smoothly, and understanding what they read. Our goal is for 80% of these students to hit their personal learning targets or reach their grade level.

Math

By January 2026, we want our Grade 4–8 students to do more than just find the right answer. We want them to become ‘math thinkers.’ This means they’ll get better at tackling tricky problems, explaining their logic, and sharing their ideas with others using purposeful language.

Belonging and Participation (Equity)

By the end of the year, we want our SAB classrooms to be places where every student’s story and voice matter. Teachers will use lessons that reflect the diverse backgrounds of our students, ensuring that everyone, especially those who have felt left out in the past, has a fair chance to lead, participate, and see themselves in what they are learning.

Did you know….

  • that we have a Child and Youth Worker assigned to our school half time? Her name is Ms. Williams and she does a fabulous job with students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 who may be needing additional support with social navigation or expected behaviours. Students or teachers alike can reach out to her if they feel support is needed (with parental consent). We are thankful for Ms. Williams for all she does for our school!
  • that our Junior Basketball team is participating in a “BallStars Tournament” at WLU on Sunday, May 3rd? Go, SAB, go!
  • that our Welcome to School Kindergarten morning is May 28th from 8:40-9:30am for all newly registered JK (or SK) students

Wishing all of you a warm and sunny week ahead.

Jaime Demsey, Principal
